Hmmm.

[ slowly, nonchalantly rolls off the table and looks to see who's here ]

The table creaks under the movement, but that's all. Haku may have some difficulty with the nonchalant part; his joints feel stiff, and his body far away and numb. Like he's been lying there long enough for most of his limbs to fall asleep.

There's the woman sleeping on the floor— but he also manages to catch a glimpse of someone hastily leaving the room, their labcoat flaring behind them.

[ hesitates, looking after the person fleeing--but his limbs are sufficiently stiff that he doesn't trust himself to be able to catch up with them, and he crouches by the woman instead, studying her ]

She's blonde, with choppy chin-length hair. Her labcoat is rumpled, and missing a button. She's a little dusty, but nowhere near as much as the rest of the room; it looks like someone's made an attempt to brush her off, but not especially recently.

...

[ frowns and checks the labcoat to see if he can find the button in its pockets or something ]

There's nothing in her pockets. She doesn't stir in response to the patdown, but the rustling of the fabric sounds unnervingly like whispers.

Tch...how sloppy.

[ gets up to investigate the rest of the room; is there anything, a rag or something, to clear off the dust with? ]

There's some cotton with the surgical tools. Aside from that, there's only you.

Tch.

[ he gives up on that for now and instead crouches to try to pick up the sleeping woman ]

She lifts easily, lying limply in his arms.

[ well, then, he's going to carry her out of the room ]

He exits the room into a hallway, with several closed doors along it. Again, he's just in time to catch sight of the person rushing through the opposite door.

[ still carrying the woman, he quickens his pace slightly to follow the mystery person, calling after them ]

Wait.

There's no response from ahead— but he gets about halfway down the hall before the quality of the silence changes, making the hair on the back of his neck stand up. It's hard to say exactly how he knows, but—

Something is behind him. He can hear it breathing.

Jeez. Are you going to attack me while I'm carrying someone? How unfair.

[ and he turns around ]

It's standing so close he nearly bumps into it on the turn.

It's almost painful to look at, the form shifting and distorting as he watches; it's like trying to focus on something in a pitch-black room, or perhaps something viewed through heat haze. He can make out sharp blades, though, and glittering grey eyes before it reaches out and tears the corpse from his arms.
