[ there's no door here— only a worn doorframe. it's dark on the other side, but if you look long enough your eyes might adjust enough to see a faint, warm light. ]

[ a sliding shoji screen, old-looking but kept in good repair. ]

[ as you step forward the ground underneath your feet changes to rough wood, the dim light flaring almost eyesearingly bright before fading again into the rippling reflection of sunlight off of the water.

you stand on a dock, in the middle of a beach. before you, a river (the river...?) stretches as far as you can see to your left and right, but not quite wide enough that you can't faintly make out the opposite shore. the sun is just barely visible over the greenery over there— you can't quite tell whether it's just rising or almost done setting, but the lightshow it makes off of the clouds and water is incredible either way. the smell of the water is cool and rich, thick with the smell of things living and dying in the way only larger bodies of water are.

all in all, it's very peaceful. ]

[ Saber touches the frame briefly before he steps through. ]

[ you step forward into the entryway of what looks to be a Japanese-style house. a breeze from some unseen window or open door carries the smell of flowers and straw to you, and you can hear soft crinkling and shushing noises from the room ahead along with tuneless humming.

there's an alcove for shoes near your feet with a pair already neatly tucked in there. ]

[ It's a bit awkward to take off boots, but Rin is hardly going to be rude. She takes off her boots with some effort— she ends up leaning awkwardly against a wall— and tucks them as best as she can at the alcove. Then she follows the sound the tuneless humming. ]

[ It's very peaceful.

Saber actually takes a moment to enjoy the peace, but that's not the point of why he's here. It's a game, right? ...Competition. Whatever. He looks around, up and down the river, to see if there's anything he can spot from where he's standing that indicates a good direction to head. ]

[ the entryway opens up into a living room— the entire thing has an old-fashioned and traditional air, with tatami mats on the floor and soft cushions scattered about. there are paintings and calligraphy hung on the walls, and... several swords?

however, more immediately noticeable is the girl sitting at a kotatsu— she's practicing calligraphy, humming as she scoots the brush over the paper with intense concentration and a little too much pressure for the lines to come out anywhere near gracefully. it's unmistakably Lilith— though a much more well-cared-for Lilith than Rin's ever seen. her hair is neatly trimmed in a shorter cut, there are bandages and gauze painstakingly taped over her seams, and in general she just seems... softer. even her face looks more rounded, although that has more to do with relaxation and a less half-starved look than any apparent change in her age.

her focus on the calligraphy doesn't last long, though. she glances up as she hears footsteps, and freezes with an almost comic deer-in-headlights expression—

THEN SHE DIVES UNDER THE KOTATSU. there goes half the calligraphy supplies. ]

Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.

[ Rin crouches down. ]

Are you okay?

[ no reply

...okay, maybe a little shuffle as she tries to figure out how to keep her feet from sticking out underneath the kotatsu's blanket. YOU CAN'T SEE HER, THEREFORE, CLEARLY YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY MEAN HER you saw nothing ]

[ Rin reaches over and moves the kotatsu blanket to cover Lilith's feet entirely. ]

[ there's nothing that really stands out...

visually, anyway. after a moment the soft lapping of water is interrupted by the shift of sand and gravel, followed by the wonderful sound of someone heaving up an alarming amount of water somewhere underneath the dock. ]

[ Well, that's vaguely alarming. Saber gets on his hands and knees and ducks his head to look around under the dock. ]

Is anyone there?

it's too bad someone who doesn't exist can't display manners. or say thank you to nice nee-sans. this is deeply unfortunate.

[ it's tempting to just stand around enjoying the view, honestly. he probably does, for longer than he means to. but then he looks around, for something to interact with ?? maybe... ]
